  • Performs required maintenance work, including the use of various vendor software platforms to program and operate SCADA, RTU’s, Protective Relaying, communication systems, and automation equipment.
  • Troubleshoots automation and protective equipment, including smart metering collector units, revenue meter communications, and downloads data and event files as required, including working at heights as required.
  • Commissions automation and protective relaying equipment at substations, field locations, vaults, and within the control center as per engineering specifications and commissioning procedures.
  • Multitask, prioritize, document and perform operations with a high degree of accuracy.
  • Provides ‘red line’ markup of single line, electrical wiring, control diagrams and termination sheets.
  • Assists in the drafting of operations and maintenance manuals for protection, control and/or automation systems.
  • Operates computer systems to manage supporting documentation, test reports, as build drawings, as left configuration files, and engineering change orders.
  • Performs SCADA / OMS database and graphics manipulation, project editing, checking, and importing as well as troubleshooting of software and hardware systems using 3rd party support.
  • Recommends projects to be undertaken in capital program that will create value by the automation of lines and stations.
  • Performs other duties as may be assigned.

Mandatory:

  • A graduate Electrical Engineering Technologist with a Certified Engineering Technologist (C.E.T.) designation with the Ontario Association of Certified Engineering Technicians and Technologists (OACETT), or eligibility to obtain a C.E.T. certification within a 1-year time frame.
  • Must be proficient in the use of computers, Microsoft Office, AutoCAD, protective relaying and automation software, as well as demonstrated a detailed understanding of computer programming logic, and automation systems including a working knowledge of Ethernet and TCP/IP systems. 
  • Knowledge in the operation, maintenance, programming, and installation practices with respect to protective relaying, SCADA, communications systems, HMI, RTUs and PLCs. 
  • Experience working on and around battery systems, low voltage power and control wiring, analog and digital signals, transducers, wireless and wired communication systems.
  • Must have excellent interpersonal, organizational, decision making and communication (verbal and written) skills.
  • Must be competent within the meaning of the Occupational Health & Safety Act.

Preferred:

  • Minimum 5 years working experience in the area of electrical and computer systems.
  • A thorough knowledge of electrical utility distribution systems and associated equipment, protective device coordination, Utility Work Protection Code (UWPC), and work experience within an electrical utility. 
  • Programming experience with IEC 61131 will be considered an asset.
  • A demonstrated commitment to continuous improvement, customer service, frontline leadership and teamwork principles is preferred
  • Experience in operation, maintenance and installation / commissioning practices with respect to protective relaying, SCADA systems, RTUs, and PLCs. 
  • Experience with communications systems including such mediums as fiber, copper and wireless.
  • Knowledge of IHSA rules, policies, procedures, and associated legislation.
  • Current First Aid/CPR and WHMIS training.

  • Must not be colour blind 
  • Must have and maintain a valid Ontario Driver’s License (Class G). 
  • Must be willing to work overtime, on-call, and out-of-town as required. 
  • Must successfully complete a Police Information Check.
  • Must successfully pass Drug & Alcohol testing.
