POSITION SUMMARY: Under the general supervision of the Manager, is responsible for identifying, monitoring, and the timely collecting of outstanding accounts and related accounting requirements.

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:

•Responds to customer inquiries with regard to collection, payment plans, and the collection of accounts approaching tax registration.

•Performs collection procedures relating to outstanding tax, water, accounts receivable and provincial offence fines in accordance with the Corporation’s policies and procedures and respective legislation.

•Liaises with collection agencies and City Solicitor, and determines best alternative to pursue in collection process.

•Participates in developing procedures to maximize collections in accordance with respective legislation.

•Prepares collection status reports.

•Prepares journal entries and performs reconciliations for amounts transferred to tax rolls for other municipal services.

•Performs such other related duties as may be assigned.

Education/Experience:

•Secondary school graduation; and

•Post secondary courses in accounting; or

•Equivalent combination of education and experience

•Previous collection experience is required

Skills/Abilities:

•Demonstrated skill in communication both written and oral is essential

•Must have basic knowledge of current word processing and spreadsheet software

•Must be able to converse with the public in a courteous and tactful manner CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:

•May be required to travel to various work locations and provide own transportation

•Must undergo a successful Criminal Record and Judicial Matters Check (CRJMC)
