Under the supervision of the Band Representative manager, the Intervention and Prevention Support Worker will liaise with all Biinjitiwaabik Zaaging Anishinaabek (BZA) band membership children and families, regardless of location, who involved with Children’s Aid Societies or at risk of being involved with Children’s Aid Societies.

The Intervention and Prevention Support Worker will provide culturally grounded support to individuals and families within the community, focusing on early intervention, prevention, and advocacy. Working within the Band Representative Department, this role assists in identifying needs, connecting members to appropriate services, and supporting positive outcomes through education, guidance, and case coordination. The worker collaborates with leadership, service providers, and community programs to address social, emotional, and family-related challenges while promoting wellness, safety, and self-sufficiency. This position also supports prevention initiatives by delivering community outreach, workshops, and resources aimed at strengthening families and reducing risk factors.

Primary Job Responsibilities:

Financial Management

• Understand and follow all financial policies and procedures and be accountable to the funds

• Provide monthly, quarterly and year budget reports

• Track and document program related expenses

• Assist with budget monitoring

• Submit expense claims receipts and financial documentation in a timely manner

• Support the procurement of goods and services

• maintain accurate records

• Ensure the compliance of funding requirements

• Safeguard financial information and maintain confidentiality

• Assist in preparing basic financial reports and summaries

Main Responsibilities

• Promote BZA’s mission and ensure all services reflect Indigenous culture, values, and community priorities.

• Support Band Representatives and assist families in developing and following Family Plans of Care.

• Assess parenting strengths, challenges, and family functioning; provide coaching in parenting, child management, and life skills.

• Deliver prevention-focused support to keep children safely with their families and assist with reintegration when needed.

• Provide crisis intervention, safety planning, and coordination of family visits.

• Offer information on child development, community services, and available programs.

• Maintain strong relationships with First Nation leadership, service providers, and community partners.

• Document all contacts, case notes, plans, and updates in CPIN according to standards.

• Participate in case conferences, program evaluation, training, and development of Indigenous parenting strategies.

• Communicate family progress, risks, and changes to relevant staff and stakeholders.

• Ensure services follow family-centered, strength-based, community-based practice standards.

• Support team development through effective communication, supervision strategies, and continuous improvement.

• Advocate for culturally grounded services and contribute to Agency planning and decision-making.

• Perform additional duties as required.

• Maintain respectful and professional relationships with all personnel appropriate to an education institute which provides services to children.

Performs other duties and responsibilities as necessary in the performance of the position and as assigned by Supervisor.

Education:

Minimum Two (2) year Social Services Worker (SSW) or Child and Youth Worker (CYW) diploma or diploma/degree in the human services field is required.

Experience:

• Minimum Two (2) year Social Services Worker (SSW) or Child and Youth Worker (CYW) diploma or diploma/degree in the human services field is required.

• Willingness to acquire professional requirements.
