Position Overview:

Under the direction of the Program Manager, the Indigenous Midwife Apprentice will provide culturally safe midwifery care under the direct supervision of certified midwives. This role combines clinical learning with Indigenous cultural teachings to support safe, holistic, and family-centered care for pregnant people, newborns, and their families. The apprentice will learn through hands-on experience, mentorship, formal training, and engagement with community knowledge holders as part of their pathway toward becoming a fully trained Indigenous Midwife. The apprentice will support community outreach and education by engaging with youth and expectant families to help them make informed decisions about reproductive care. They will also work collaboratively with the certified midwives, along with the Health and Wellness, Mental Health and Substance Use Health, and Child Welfare teams at Dilico Anishinabek Family Care, to provide prenatal, intrapartum, and postpartum care for medium and high complexity cases.

  • Grade 12 Diploma
  • BScN or Nursing Diploma would be an asset
  • Three years work experience in maternal or child health care
  • Experience working with Anishinabek people is an asset
  • Candidates without the specific education qualifications and where the position does not require certified qualification to practice, but who possess an appropriate combination of experience and other academic qualifications will also be considered
  • Must be willing and able to work flexible hours, provide on-call service on a rotational basis
  • Must be certified in CPR and Standard First Aid
  • The regulated health care provider must provide evidence of registration with the appropriate regulatory body
  • Must be able to travel regularly, have a valid Ontario Driver's Licence and have access to a personal vehicle
  • A criminal records search and vulnerable sector search is required upon hiring.
