Position Overview:
Under the direction of the Program Manager the doula will work collaboratively with the other members of the Midwifery Team to contribute to positive health outcomes for new parents and their babies. The doula is responsible for providing women, their partners and families with continuous emotional support, physical comfort and assistance in obtaining information before, during or just after childbirth. This may include specific cultural practices that the birthing mother and/or couple wish to incorporate into their birthing experience. Improving the birthing experience increases positive outcomes for the mother and the baby. The doula will collaborate with the midwifery team and other health care professionals to ensure coordinated maternal infant care. Strong communication skills and cultural sensitivity are essential to success in this role.

- Doula Certification
- Three years work experience in maternal or child health care
- Experience working with Anishinabek people is an asset
- Candidates without the specific education qualifications and where the position does not require certified qualification to practice, but who possess an appropriate combination of experience and other academic qualifications will also be considered
- Must be willing and able to work flexible hours, provide on-call service on a rotational basis
- Must be certified in CPR and Standard First Aid
- The regulated health care provider must provide evidence of registration with the appropriate regulatory body
- Must be able to travel regularly, have a valid Ontario Driver's License and have access to a personal vehicle
- A criminal records search and vulnerable sector search is required upon hiring.
