Position Overview

Oshkiniig Mashkaziiwin is a voluntary, intensive live-in treatment program for youth aged 5-17 who have been assessed as high-risk with longstanding mental health and behavioural problems. Parent or caregiver participation is required for successful completion of the up-to 12-week program grounded in the 7 sacred teachings (wisdom, love, respect, bravery, honesty, humility and truth), The program provides:

  • An individualized strengths-based and goal orientated approach
  • Land-based treatment activities that promote and benefit the physical, social, emotional, and cultural aspects of life
  • School based education assistance
  • Three months of aftercare assistance to reinforce and support a successful transition home

Under the direction of the program manager, the Family Healing & Aftercare Facilitator will ensure that developmental, treatment, and psycho-social needs of the children, youth, and families involved with Oshkiniig Mashkaziiwin are met. The facilitator will do deliver service based on assessment recommendations from program entry through aftercare and shall maintain a strong and consistent communication support system between the child or youth and their caregiver.

 

Qualifications and Requirements

  1. A minimum of two-year Human Services, Social Services, Social Worker, or equivalent diploma, or a diploma in a similar field with relevant work experience is required
  2. Two or more years' experience working with Anishinabek children, youth and their families in the mental health field is preferred
  3. Satisfactory Vulnerable Sectors Check
  4. Have a valid Standard First Aid/CPR Certificate or be willing to obtain one
  5. Ability to work flexible hours as determined by the program manager or designate
  6. Have a Class "G" License and have the ability to get to and from work during scheduled working hours, and to conduct client transportation or home visits, among others, in a timely manner
  7. Complete the required medical assessment(s) and have the required vaccinations for the role

 

Hours of Work: 32.5 hours per week
