Position Overview:
Under the direction of the Intake Manager, the Intake Screener receives referrals, reports or information regarding a child that may need protection in accordance with provisions of the Child and Family Services Act, Ministry Regulations and Standards, Abuse Protocols, Differential Response, Dilico’s policies and procedures and Dilico’s Mikinaak Service Delivery Model. In particular, it includes requirements with respect to the following:
• The information that is to be collected from, and provided to the referral source.
• Information that is collected from other sources considering a referral (i.e. case records, electronic databases) and associated timeframes for these activities.
• The assessment of the information to determine the appropriate response to a referral.
• The response times for initiating an investigation.
• Supervisory approvals and documentation related to the referral.

Qualifications and Requirements:
- Obtaining a full and detailed report to the incident or condition that causes the person reporting to be concerned that a child may need protection.
- Obtaining information about the identities of all adults living in the home who may have access to or charge of the child, all children believed to need protection.
- Obtaining information about the functioning of the family and its individual members, particularly the child who is the subject of the concern.
- Personally, and professionally becoming familiar with assigned Councils and communities by regular, frequent visits and direct involvement.
- Reflecting and interpreting the Agency Vision, Mission and Core Values in his/her own work with enthusiasm and commitment.
- Acting in accordance with relevant legislation and Agency Policies, Standards and Procedures.
- Proposing changes within Dilico that would improve the quality of service to Anishinabek children, families and communities.
- A minimum two-year Human Services Diploma is required. A three-year BSW is preferred.
- A minimum two years' experience with Anishinabek children, youth, individuals and families.
- Preferably Child Welfare experience.
- Computer literacy and keyboarding skills, proficiency in word processing (Microsoft Word), attention to detail.
- Knowledge of theories of human behavior and ability to apply in assessment and planning.
- Satisfactory Criminal Records Search.
- Required to work flexible hours, travel regularly and to act on an “on-call” basis as determined by the respective Service Manager in relation to service requirements.
- Must possess a Class “G” Driver’s License, possess a clean driving record and have access to a personal vehicle which will pass a safety inspection.
Hours of Work: 32.5 hours per week
