Position Overview:

Under the direction of the Program Manager, the Clinical Counsellor provides therapeutic services and supports using a variety of evidence-based and culturally grounded modalities within the Clinical Services program. The role includes the delivery of counselling, assessment, and consultation services for individuals, families, and groups.

The Clinical Counsellor contributes to the holistic wellness of Indigenous children, youth, adults, and families by integrating culturally safe, trauma-informed, and strength-based approaches into clinical practice. While the clinician is expected to provide independent therapeutic services, opportunities for clinical consultation and support will be available through the agency’s multidisciplinary team.

This position requires travel throughout the district and participation in community-based service delivery as needed.

Qualifications and Requirements:

  • A Master of Social Work or Psychology degree is required.
  • Eligible for supervised practice licensing with the College of Psychologists of Ontario or Ontario College of Social Service Workers and Social Workers.
  • Minimum of two (2) years of experience providing clinical assessment and counselling services to individuals, families, and/or groups, preferably within an Indigenous or community-based mental health setting.
  • Demonstrated experience conducting clinical, psychosocial, and risk assessments, developing treatment plans, and delivering evidence-based interventions
  • Experience delivering brief, structured therapy and group facilitation using CBT, DBT, and trauma-informed approaches.
  • Proven ability to collaborate within a multidisciplinary clinical team and liaise effectively with community agencies, referral sources, and professional partners.
  • Strong understanding of cultural safety, Indigenous approaches to wellness, and the impacts of colonization and intergenerational trauma.
  • Ability to deliver culturally grounded, trauma-informed, and strength-based services that promote holistic wellness.
  • Excellent clinical judgment, assessment, and documentation skills, with proficiency in maintaining accurate and timely case records in accordance with agency policy and professional standards.
  • Effective communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build positive relationships with clients, families, and colleagues.
  • Counseling, assessments and group therapy skills.
  • Competence in data collection, outcome measurement, and program evaluation related to mental health services.
  • Satisfactory Criminal Records Search.
  • Ability to work flexible hours as determined by the Program Manager in relation to service requirements.
  • Ability and willingness to travel throughout district communities as required.
  • Must possess a Class “G” Driver’s License and have access to a personal vehicle.
  • A valid Standard First Aid/CPR Certificate is recommended.
  • Complete and maintain certification relevant assessment tools.
  • Must maintain professional registration
  • Must complete a medical and receive the required immunizations as recommended by the local medical officer of health.

Hours of Work: 32.5 weekly
