Position Overview

The Disability Management Specialist is responsible for managing employee claims related to workplace injuries, health-related absences, and disabilities. This includes administering work-related claims with WSIB, overseeing return-to-work programs, coordinating accommodations, and managing Short-Term Disability (STD) and Long-Term Disability (LTD) claims with Manulife. 

The Specialist ensures compliance with Workplace Safety and Insurance Board (WSIB) policies, Ministry of Labour, Immigration, Training and Skills Development (MLITSD) regulations, and Manulife’s disability plan guidelines. This role involves close collaboration with employees, medical professionals, insurance providers, and managers to promote a safe, supportive, and legally compliant work environment.

Qualifications & Requirements

  • Diploma or degree in Human Resources, Disability Management, Occupational Health, or a related field.
  • Three or more years of experience in claims management, return-to-work coordination, and accommodations, with knowledge of WSIB and Manulife claims processes, as well as MLITSD regulations.
  • Strong knowledge of WSIB and Manulife claims management processes and MLITSD regulations.
  • Ability to coordinate return-to-work plans and accommodations in compliance with medical recommendations, WSIB policies, and Manulife’s disability plan.
  • Excellent communication, problem-solving, and organizational skills.
  • Strong attention to detail, with the ability to maintain confidentiality and manage sensitive information.
  • Must have the ability to work flexible hours and travel as needed in relation to service requirements.
  • Must possess a valid Class “G” Driver’s License and have access to a personal vehicle.
  • Must complete a criminal records check.
