Under the supervision of the Director of Thunder Bay, The Financial Literacy Coordinator will create an 8-month program aimed at enhancing financial literacy among Indigenous youth, addressing historical trauma, and fostering community connections. The program will incorporate peer learning, media creation, art therapy, and storytelling to redefine narratives around money, wealth, and healing.

The successful candidate will lead program strategy, delivery, and evaluation while ensuring all activities are culturally relevant, youth-driven, and trauma-informed. This role is ideal for someone with experience in youth engagement, financial education, Indigenous knowledge systems, and creative media or art-based programming.

  • Create and manage an implementation strategy to meet the project's goals and objectives.

  • Conduct needs assessments with Indigenous youth and Thunder Bay Youth Council.

  • Design engaging and culturally relevant financial literacy workshops.

  • Build relationships with community partners, elders, youth, and financial experts.

  • Develop tracking tools for participant progress and engagement.

  • Organize and lead regular workshops, 1-1's, lunch-and-learns, and training sessions.

  • Coordinate off-site learning excursions and cultural activities.

  • Collaborate with the ENAGB team to incorporate healing and wellness into financial learning.

  • Support youth-led storytelling and mixed media creation to redefine wealth and money through cultural and lived experience lenses.

  • Create a comprehensive engagement strategy, utilizing social media, events, and local partnerships, to effectively promote the program, host immersive youth events, and maintain a strong online presence.

  • Oversee and maintain records of activities, attendance, feedback, and outcomes.

  • Create a detailed final report on program impact and challenges.

  • Develop a multi-year strategy for long-term program sustainability.

 

  • Bachelor’s degree in relevant discipline or a combination of work experience of at least 2-3 years in related fields. 

  • Minimum of 2 years of youth work experience.

  • Strong understanding of Indigenous cultures and community dynamics.

  • Experience in designing and delivering youth programming, particularly within Indigenous communities.

  • Knowledge or training in financial literacy topics.

  • Experience with trauma-informed care and youth wellness strategies.

  • Skill in arts-based programming, media creation, and storytelling.

  • Excellent organizational, communication, and project management skills.

  • Ability to work collaboratively and build trust with diverse stakeholders.

  • Proficient with digital platforms for communication and promotion.

  • Ability to work evenings and weekends, as required.

  • Adequate energy and ability to meet the physical demands of the job.

  • Valid Standard First Aid and CPR certification.

  • Cleared Criminal Reference Check (CPIC) and Vulnerable Sector Screening (VSC) are mandatory.

  • Positive attitude, self-motivation, and the ability to work effectively within a team.

Employment Details

Salary: $32/hr

Hours: 30 hours/week, Tuesday to Friday

Position Type: Contract

Location: Thunder Bay, ON

Contract Duration: July 15, 2025 - March 31, 2026
