Introduction to Information Technology Try a Trade Project

Background:

The Pre-Apprenticeship Job Readiness - Introduction to IT Training Program equips Indigenous youth and adults (ages 16 years +)  with the theoretical knowledge, workplace essential, technical, and employability skills required to enter a career in Information and Digital Technology.

Trainees will gain:

  •  Foundational IT and digital technology skills
  •  Workplace Essential Skills Certificate
  •  Service Excellence Certificate
  •  AETS Soft Skills 
  •  WHMIS & AODA Certifications
  •  Introduction to Indigenous IT Certificate
  •  Theory and hands-on learning and guided labs
  •  Paid work placement experience
  •  IT career exploration and mentorship
  •  Optional secondary school credits

  • Bridge the employment gap between Indigenous job seekers and employer needs

Who should apply: 
16-29 years

Training Project Components for up to 29 or 40 weeks as required:

  1. Orientation Day & Pre-Learning Assessment (in-person – 2 days / 5 hours per day)
  2. Introduction to Information Technology (IT) Training (Monday - Friday, 3-5 hours per day for 10 weeks)
  3. Land-Based Experiential Learning (In-person – Gerald Roy Jolly Ranch – 93 Smart Road, Kakabeka Falls, ON – 2 days per month)
  4. Service Excellence Training (in-person - 3 days)
  5. WHMIS / AODA Training (In-Person -1 day)
  6. Paid Work Placements (minimum 8 weeks / maximum 12 weeks - placements can occur during training, after training is completed or both)

Duration:

  • Start and End dates of training; September 10th 2026 to March 30th 2027; Estimate Total Training Weeks: 17 and Work Placements: 8-12 Weeks (For a Total of 29 Weeks) 

Financial Supports:

  • Participants may receive stipends for program participation and/or dependent care  (measured by attendance – up to a max of 20 weeks of training), transportation, and have the opportunity for an 8 to 12-week paid work placement.  The maximum available participant supports is TBD

  • The maximum available targeted wage subsidy is $250 per week or $3,000 per participant / 8 week

  • AETS Elder and Tutor and Transportation Support, related Supplies, Safety Gear and IT Tool Kits
