The Aboriginal Prenatal Nutrition Coordinator will ensure that health needs are addressed in regards to young mothers, infants, young children and their families. The Aboriginal Prenatal Nutrition Coordinator will deliver services in terms of healthy pregnancies, promote breast feeding, healthy lifestyles, offer support to off-reserve women and will also link with other prenatal resources and Aboriginal cultural resources.

Responsibilities

? Conduct a needs assessment and develop plans of action to meet needs.

? Create a healthy and safe environment for all mothers to be and infants seeking activities offered through the program.

? Develop parenting support circles with an emphasis on prevention, healthy families and culture

? Establish a relationship with community resources and other agencies and refer clients when needed to facilitate increased Indigenous awareness and sensitivity.

? Preparing and submitting quarterly reports

? On the job training will be provided as required.

Requirements

? Diploma and/or post-secondary degree in related field are preferred; or a combination of relevant education and work related experience.

? Must have a Criminal Records Check, including a Vulnerable Sector Screening completed and approved prior to commencement of the position.

? Must possess a valid class “G” driver’s license, and access to reliable vehicle.

Assets

? Experience in planning, coordinating, implementing and monitoring community-based programming with specific focus on pregnant Indigenous women and babies up to the age of one year.

? Experience in program development, data collection, data management, file maintenance, proposal writing and evaluation would be an asset.

? Stayed informed of the approved budget and work within the budget limits.

? An understanding of Aboriginal culture and the social realities that Aboriginal people experience in an urban setting.

? Ability to work as a team member and meet deadlines with minimum supervision.

? Excellent communication, facilitation skills and experience working with diverse groups.

? Knowledge of computers and various applications. (Word processing, database programs, internet and email).

? Ability to speak and write Ojibway, Cree and/or Oji-Cree

? Be able to work flexible hours including evenings and occasional weekends based on programming.

Starting salary range begins at $41,642 plus 4% vacation
