DIRECTOR OF FINANCE

Under the supervision of the Executive Director, the Director of Finance provides financial guidance to the managers and assists in the financial processes to ensure the smooth operation of all NALSC programs. The Director of Finance performs internal control functions, cash management, general ledger administration and payment processing within the Finance Department to expedite day-to-day operations and the business of NALSC. Furthermore, the Director of Finance acts as the financial contact for all Funders and is tasked with submitting all financial reports to NALSC’s various Funders. The Director of Finance will also assist with the negotiation of funding
agreements.

Qualifications:
• College or University education in business administration or accounting and an accounting designation (CPA, CA, CMA, CGA, CAFM) is required;
• At least five years senior level accounting experience operating a full-range general ledger, payroll, accounts payable and accounts receivable system in a computerized environment.
• Experience and knowledge of corporate functions and accountabilities.
• Able to create and manage multiple budgets;
• An understanding of generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP) and internal controls together with ability to implement same in a non-profit setting;
• Able to communicate effectively verbally and in writing;
• Able to make decisions based on existing policy and available information;
• Able to operate the following computer applications: Adagio, PayDirt, Softworks and Microsoft products;
• Ability to handle and prioritize multiple tasks and meet deadlines;
• Maintain Confidentiality regarding financial transactions and activities;
• The ability to speak Cree, Ojibway, or Oji-Cree would be an asset.

This is a managerial position that reports and is accountable to the Executive Director of NALSC. The Director of Justice Programs ensures that all aspects of the department are running effectively and is responsible for overseeing and expanding the Department.

Qualifications:
• A post-secondary degree/diploma in legal, law enforcement studies, social or mental health, or a related field of study
• 5 to 7 years of directly relevant managerial experience, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
• In-depth knowledge and experience with financial management.
• Significant knowledge and understanding of justice issues in FN communities.

The Gladue Caseworker is responsible for assisting Indigenous persons we serve in fulfilling the recommendations made in a Gladue report written on their behalf. The Gladue Caseworker will provide direct services and make necessary referrals to programs and services in the community to ensure the clients receive services in a timely fashion.

Qualifications:
• Preferred Community College diploma, University degree or equivalent in Social Services and/or a minimum of 5 years work in a social or justice services environment.
• Knowledge of the judicial system, Criminal Code, and other related federal and provincial statutes, and related court decisions regarding Indigenous persons.
• Knowledge of Indigenous culture and experience working with Indigenous persons; understanding of the northern cultural environment
• Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings and/or weekends.

The Victim Witness Liaison Team Lead (VWLTL) is responsible for assisting the Manager and Victim Witness Liaison workers in all aspects of training, continuing development and implementation of the NALSC’s direct services programs. The Victim Witness Liaison Team Lead will act as an advocate, offer support, and ensure immediate needs are met.

Qualifications:
• The ideal candidate will be empathetic, have a passion for helping others and want to make a difference in their community.
• Requires excellent communication skills and excellent case/file management skills oral and written.
• Experience supporting and working with victims or witnesses of crimes (all ages). Involving sensitive cases such as sexual abuse, child abuse, domestic violence, homicide and death related crimes by providing emotional, mental and cultural support/resources.
• Understanding the legal system and Indigenous issues is a strong asset.
• Experience working with NAN and in First Nation Communities.
• Proficiency in Financial Literacy (i.e. budget review and drafting, reviewing cost breakdown proposal, and reviewing and approving budget related costs in the absence of the VWL Manager)
• Proficient working knowledge of MS Office Software, internet, and general office
equipment.
• Must be able to travel extensively, with little notice at times.
• Demonstrative ability to work independently and as a team within busy environment/program.
• Ability to speak Ojibway or Cree will be considered a strong asset.
