TALKING TOGETHER PROGRAM ADMINISTRATIVE CLERK

The Administrative Clerk provides clerical and administrative support to the Talking Together Program, My Journey Back Home and Mang-Otawin for all administrative duties undertaken by NALSC. At times, the Assistant may be required to assist other departments of the corporation or take on additional duties where the Corporation assumes additional projects.

Qualifications:
• Completion of Post-Secondary Education
• Some experience as an administrative assistant in a professional office setting such as a law office, political organization, or the public sector.
• Understands need for confidentiality
• Able to work with minimal supervision
• Satisfactory written and oral communications skills including computer skills
• Ability to speak the Oji Cree language preferred
• Advanced computer skills (MS Word, Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint, Internet, and ability to use Data Bases), and superior typing
• Excellent writing and communication skills
• Professionalism and discretion
• Strong organizational abilities are required
• Criminal record check is required
• Ability to speak Cree, Oji-Cree, or Ojibway an asset

ACTING BAIL PROGRAM MANAGER

(External – Term Contract up to January 2027, with Possible Extension)

The Bail Program Manager is a supervisory position that reports to the Director of Legal Services. The Manager ensures the Bail Program office functions effectively and notifies of any issues and needs. The Manager also monitors the duties and responsibilities of the Indigenous Bail Verification Workers, Community Release and Reintegration Workers, and Bail Navigators.

The Bail Program Manager works with partners and stakeholders for outreach and education. The Manager must ensure that the Director of Legal Services is kept up to date on activities regarding outreach and engagement.

Qualifications:
• Two years’ work experience in a social or justice services environment and/or post-secondary education in social services, law, politics, or Indigenous studies.
• Proven ability to work with individuals from the community.
• Knowledge of historic and current forms of colonialism, systemic discrimination, displacement, and barriers facing Indigenous communities.
• Ability to articulate criminal and social justice issues.
• Experience in counselling, crisis intervention, and trauma-informed care is an asset.
• Fluency in an Indigenous language is an asset.
• Strong computer literacy skills and ability to use MS Office Software.
• Flexibility to work evenings, weekends, and statutory holidays as required.
• Criminal record check is required.
• Excellent communication skills both oral and written.

GLADUE WRITER

Under the direction of the Manager of Court Services, the Gladue Writer will prepare Gladue Reports for Nishnawbe-Aski Nation (NAN) members in the court system process in accordance with the Gladue sentencing principles as per section 718.2(e) of the Criminal Code. The Gladue Reports provide the courts with a comprehensive picture of an Aboriginal offender’s life circumstances and systemic barriers. This information is gathered by interviewing the offender and corroborating the life circumstances of the offender by interviewing third parties, such as family, extended family, and
community members.

Qualifications:
• Post-secondary education in Law, Criminal Justice, Social Work, or related work experience in the justice field;
• Coordinate the facilitation of the Gladue Report;
• Ability to research primary and secondary sources for historical discourse for Gladue Reports;
• Experience working in courts, Gladue Writing, and restorative justice programs will be considered an asset;
• Knowledge of the judicial process, Criminal Code, and other related federal and provincial statutes, and related court decisions regarding Aboriginal persons;
• Self-motivated individual with the ability to work with minimal supervision;
• Exceptional writing skills and effective interviewing skills;
• Ability to interact with clients, build rapport and trust, effective verbal and listening skills;
• Able to work under pressure and meet deadlines;
• Ability to work flexible hours including evenings and weekends;
• Proficient working knowledge of MS Office Software, internet, and general office equipment
• Ability to speak Cree, Oji-Cree, or Ojibway an asset.
