The Opportunity

Full-time primary care paramedic opportunities exist Longlac, Terrace Bay, Schreiber, or Manitouwadge.

 As a full-time Paramedic, you will be responsible for performing patient assessment, treatment, and monitoring tasks, which include controlled medical acts while providing safe and timely transport in accordance with the applicable legislation.

This role reports to the Superintendent with the following accountabilities:

·       Responds to ambulance calls within a specified timeframe and reports each movement of ambulance or emergency response unit immediately to Central Ambulance Communication Centres (CACC) as required by Superior North EMS policies and procedures.

·       Assesses environmental risks and responds to patient(s) and personal safety needs.

·       Administers to and provides patient care in accordance with Basic Life Support Patient Care Standards (BLS PCS), Advanced Life Support Patient Care Standards (ALS PCS), and all other required Standards as set by the Ministry of Health and Long-Term Care, Emergency Health Services Branch.

·       Provides documentation, including ambulance call reports and incident/collision reports as required and as per the Ontario Ambulance Documentation Standards.

·       Conducts patient triage assessment and evaluation.

Ideal Candidate

·       Must meet the qualifications for primary care paramedic as stipulated in the regulations of the Ambulance Act, as amended.

·       Must meet minimum standards and complete mandatory training specified by the Ministry of Health and Long-Term Care, Emergency Health Services Branch, and Superior North EMS

·       One to two years’ experience as a primary care paramedic 

·       Must have excellent interpersonal, customer service, and teamwork skills.

·       Must possess and maintain a valid Ontario Class “F” driver's licence or equivalent.

·       Must have the ability to work safely and within the Occupational Health and Safety Act

POSITION SUMMARY: Under the direct supervision of the Superintendent – EMS Operations, is responsible for performing patient assessment, treatment, and monitoring tasks, which include controlled medical acts while providing safe and timely transport in accordance with the applicable Acts.

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:

1. Responds to ambulance calls within a specified timeframe and reports each movement of ambulance or emergency response unit immediately to Central Ambulance Communication Centres (CACC) as required by Superior North EMS policies and procedures.

2. Assesses environmental risks and responds to patient(s) and personal safety needs.

3. Conducts patient triage assessment and evaluation.

4. Administers to and provides patient care in accordance with Basic Life Support Patient Care Standards (BLS PCS), Advanced Life Support Patient Care Standards (ALS PCS), and all other required Standards as set by the Ministry of Health and Long-Term Care, Emergency Health Services Branch.

5. Provides documentation, including ambulance call reports and incident/collision reports as required and as per the Ontario Ambulance Documentation Standards.

6. Cleans, maintains, restocks and/or decontaminates equipment, supplies, vehicles, and base stations as required.

7. Complies with direction from CACC regarding safe transportation of patients.

8. Advises CACC of availability of vehicle and location as required by the BLS PCS; ensures CACC is notified whenever a vehicle is removed from service for repair or maintenance.

9. Works safely and in accordance with the Occupational Health & Safety Act.

10.Participates in public relations/education programs. 11.Performs other duties as may be assigned.

Education/Experience:

? Must meet the qualifications for primary care paramedic as stipulated in the regulations of the Ambulance Act, as amended

? Must meet minimum standards and complete mandatory training specified by the Ministry of Health and Long-Term Care, Emergency Health Services Branch, and Superior North EMS Skills/Abilities:

? Must have excellent interpersonal, customer service, and teamwork skills

? Must possess and maintain a valid Ontario Class “F” driver's licence or equivalent

? Must meet the definition of a competent driver as defined by the Corporation

? Must have the ability to work safely and within the Occupational Health and Safety Act

Assets:

? One to two years’ experience as a primary care paramedic

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:

? Must be authorized by the pre-hospital care program as a primary care paramedic

? Must hold a valid (within the last 6 months) Ability Works physical agility evaluation (PAE) or the Ottawa Paramedic Physical Ability Test (OPPAT) certificate at the time of application

? Must remain a competent driver as defined by the Corporation ? May be required to provide a successful driver’s record (uncertified)

? Must undergo a successful Police Vulnerable Sector Check (PVSC)

? Prior to commencing employment, must provide documentary evidence of having undergone a one-step tuberculosis skin test

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

? Must have a high degree of physical dexterity, coordination and strength including fine and gross motor skills and demonstrated ability in the performance of patient extrication, positioning, lifting and carrying techniques to rapidly access, treat, convey and manage patient conditions under frequently awkward, difficult and sometimes hazardous environmental conditions
