Prevention Outreach Worker organize and deliver prevention programs and activities for children, youth, parents and the community in general. This is a community-based position and training will be provided. Prevention Outreach Workers are a key part of our prevention program Mamow Oshki Pimagihowin – working together to provide new life skills. Their work is guided by our Mamow Obiki-ahwahsoowin Service Model- everyone working together to raise our children

• Work with local service providers and leadership to identify prevention needs and priorities.

• Organize and deliver prevention programs or partner with local service providers for events and programs e.g. parenting education, social events, recreational activities, Elder and youth gatherings, land-based activities, etc.

• Complete workplans and reports.

• Promote upcoming prevention programs through monthly calendars, posters, community radio station, etc.

• Interest in helping families and learning new skills. Experience with raising a family or working with children, being a part of community life in small remote communities.

• Knowledge of and lived experience with the Indigenous culture, including land-based activities, spiritual understanding, importance of Elders, etc. For this position, familiarity with the community is required.

• Education/experience related to working with families or children and youth is an asset, but not required.

• Good verbal and written skills.

• Leadership and organizational skills are needed to lead workshops, organize family activities, host community events, and deliver short-term prevention programs.

• Ability to speak Indigenous language is an asset.

• Ability to maintain confidentiality.

• Willing to work flexible hours.

• A valid Driver’s License or willingness to obtain one.

• No Remote Work Available.

• Travel is a Requirement.
