Wasauksing First Nation is accepting applications for a First Nation Child and Family

Services Cultural Coordinator. Under the direction of the Supervisor of Social

Programming and Wellness, the First Nation Child and Family Services Cultural

Coordinator is an outgoing, energetic individual who is a team player and has an

excellent understanding of Wasauksing’s culture and traditions. This individual will be

responsible for tasks involved in cultural program planning. The Cultural Coordinator

guides and engages families, children, youth, and community members in cultural

activities, promoting spiritual healing and wellness in a supportive and ethical manner.

The Cultural Coordinator also provides opportunities to share knowledge of Wasauksing

culture, traditions, history, and protocols. The ideal candidate should have experience in

language, regalia making, weaving, crafts, foods, medicines and other traditional

Wasauksing First Nation Social Services Department practices.

? Coordinates the planning for cultural knowledge and activities

? Promotes and supports traditional Wasauksing First Nation cultural teachings

and practices for families, community, and staff

? Provides support to families and children involved within the child welfare

system with a wholistic and cultural approach to Plans of Care, Safety Plans,

agreements, and other matters pertaining to family planning

? Assists in singing, drumming, and dance groups within all family programs.

? Assists in creating and maintaining an environment of safety and wellness in the

Social Programming and Wellness programming areas

? Works with children, youth and families to provide cultural teachings and assists

in the development and implementation of cultural components to the

programs

? Supports the development of a cultural safety model for grieving and the

ceremonial healing process and reintroduces the traditional ways of knowing

and doing

? Engages in collaborative community partnerships to promote traditional

healing, cultural teachings and practice

? Liaise with Elders, traditional resources, and administration to ensure correct

protocol is practiced at Wasauksing-hosted events

? Provides supportive and trusting relationships with community members

? Participates in team meetings, program meetings, and training

? Works with local partners and non-Indigenous community service organizations and institutions to promote cultural competency, safety, and cultural sustainability

? Works with partners and other government agencies to support the development and implementation of a culturally based work plan that best supports programs and services for Wasauksing children, youth and families

? Maintains an accurate program and appropriate record and information system to ensure that confidentiality is maintained

? Prepares annual program reports and provides accurate data on programs when needed

? Ensures that all pertinent registration requirements and documentation are complete

Education & Experience:

? No Educational Requirement but a High School Diploma or equivalent would be considered an asset

? Minimum five years of experience working with Indigenous families, youth and children

Other Requirements:

? Valid Driver's License and reliable personal vehicle

? Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings and/or weekends

? Available for on-call after hours and during weekends as required

? Ability to travel is required, and to travel with minimal notice

? This position requires the individual to work with various families, youth and children. To protect children, youth and vulnerable persons, Wasauksing First Nation requires the individual to provide a vulnerable sector check
