The Vice Principal plays an important role on the Biidaaban Kinoomaagegamik team. We are looking for an educational leader who will work alongside the Principal to oversee and ensure implementation of the school’s shared vision. This individual will respectfully administer school policies, procedures and regulations.

Responsibilities

? To ensure all students are supervised in a safe, culturally sensitive environment that meets the approved curricula and mission of Biidaaban Kinoomaagegamik

? To foster the achievement of wholistic academic excellence by working collaboratively with members of the school and to communicate effectively with parents.

? To assist the Principal in meeting the responsibilities for scheduling, curriculum development, extracurricular activities, personnel management, emergency procedures, and facility operations.

? Follow the policies and procedures of Biidaaban Kinoomaagegamik and Sagamok First Nation.

Organizational Relationships

The Vice Principal shall work under the supervision of the Principal and Director of Education, and shall meet regularly with the Principal, staff and Director of Education on their duties as outlined.

Physical Demands And Work Environment

? Frequent walking around in and around the school

? Frequent standing, bending, crouching and kneeling

? Sitting for extended periods of time.

? Manual dexterity for writing, keyboarding, using office equipment, and for performing other tasks.

? Moderate lifting and carrying of up 30 pounds (13.61 kg)

? Visual and auditory acuity to read correspondence, interact with students, staff, and parents.

? Ability to work in an environment with frequent interruptions. May be exposed to physical and verbal aggression from students with behavioral needs.

? Work environment is generally the office and school setting.

Qualifications/Skills

1. An Undergraduate Degree in Education; or Master’s Degree;

2. Ontario Teaching Certificate; with an active license with the Ontario College of Teachers;

3. At least five (5) year’s teaching experience,

4. Principal’s Qualification Program Part I and II and/or a plan to complete these qualifications within 3 years

5. Excellent management, planning and organizational skills;

6. Demonstrated excellence as a teacher and educational leader

7. Demonstrated experience in leadership of curriculum implementation and school/community health and wellness programming.

8. Knowledge and understanding of the vision of Sagamok Education and commitment to improving school success for students.

9. Highly successful experience working with Indigenous communities,

10. Knowledge of Anishinaabe language and culture or the willingness to learn.

11. Must possess a recent vulnerable sector criminal reference check.
