DUTIES

About the position: In this job, you will work within the Resource Conservation Team at Pukaskwa National Park. You will be responsible for learning from the land, conducting studies on natural and cultural resources, and protecting them for present and future generations. You will be part of the Emergency Response and you will assist with responding to visitor emergencies, human wildlife coexisting and prevention/compliance. The job can be physically demanding, requiring that you work in remote locations of the park, under adverse weather conditions with limited means of communications.

EDUCATION
• Have completed at least two years of post-secondary program related to the environment and/or natural sciences;
• An acceptable combination of education, training and/or experience.
* acceptable is defined as at least 2 years in the past 5 years of training and/or experience obtained in environmental or natural science fields.

Degree equivalency

EXPERIENCE
• Have experience travelling in remote locations using a canoe, boat, or ATV;
• Have volunteered/worked on a project for one season (3-4 months) related to any field of natural/ environmental science or studies (e.g.control of invasive species, creel census, water quality monitoring, archaeology, etc.)

KNOWLEDGE
• Knowledge of local natural (plants, animals, etc), and cultural resources, as well as weather conditions specific to Pukaskwa National Park;
• Knowledge of specialized technical and scientific equipment operation and maintenance requirements.

ABILITY
• Ability to follow protocols for data/sample collection and compilation;
• Ability to carry out data manipulation and to conduct basic analysis of data;
• Ability to assist in the preparation and presentation of scientific reports.

Conditions of Employment

 • Obtain & maintain Reliability Security Status;                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                       • Complete a pre-employment medical (and periodic medical assessments);
 • Willing to work shifts, weekends, holidays, and overtime, if required;
 • Willing & able to wear a Parks Canada uniform, safety equipment and follow safety procedures;
 • Valid Class "G" driver's license;
 • Successful completion of the Canadian Firearm Safety Course (organized by the park);
 • Successful completion of Standard First Aid-CPR or higher level of training (organized by the park);
 • Successful completion of the Marine Emergency Duty (MED) A3 (organized by the park).
