The Biidaaban Healing Lodge is a 12-bed residential treatment program located on the Biigtigong Nishnaabeg formerly Pic River First Nation, which is approximately 25 kilometers from Marathon, ON. We are mandated to provide quality treatment to all Aboriginal and Metis people residing in the Robinson Superior Treaty area. We provide treatment for unresolved trauma stemming from sexual abuse, family violence, adult children of trauma, grief and abandonment and anger solutions.

    Duties:Working as a team member within the counselling unit and in conjunction with the First Nation communities in the area and under the direction of the Senior Counsellor, the Summer Student Assistant is responsible for:
  • To assist in providing quality service to individuals who are attending treatment during the residential program cycle.
  • Assist with filing and ensuring client documentation is categorized and filed.
  • To provide information to individuals attending treatment regarding the Healing Lodge rules and regulations. 
  • Participation in the development of programming with guidance from Senior Counsellor and the counselling unit
  • Facilitates programming and activities under guidance of the counselling unit and community outreach programs
  • To provide support services to the Residential Counselor on duty during the 4:00 pm to12:00 am shifts.

    Qualifications:
  • Currently in a post-secondary program and returning to studies in September 2019
  • Experience working with First Nation's individuals, families and communities, and a working knowledge of healing and recovery from a Native perspective. 
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team with strong communication skills, a working knowledge of computer programs
  • An understanding of the issues that impact First Nation communities and the Anishinaabek way of life
  • Experience leading group activities 
  • Ability to manage in a multi-client, multi-team environment
  • Improvising skills are an asset. The ability to think quickly and adapt programming to the need of the clients is an asset.
