The Human Resources Assistant assists the Human Resources Manager to provide an effective HR service for all areas of the organization.

To work from a holistic perspective, utilizing the teachings of the medicine wheel and Seven Grandfather teachings.
To utilize Elders for teachings, healing and guidance.
To take personal responsibility to increase sensitivity, awareness and implementation of Beendigen’s cultural teachings and organizational practices in both professional conduct and work-related deliverables.
To assist with the recruitment process by identifying candidates, scheduling interviews and performing reference checks.
To welcome new employees to the organization by scheduling and conducting orientation.
To perform HR administrative tasks including but not limited to: maintaining employee files (hard and digital copies) and documentation; complete HRIS data entry; taking meeting minutes; and be responsible for proper filing, maintenance and retention of Human Resource Department records and documents.
To assist the HR Manager with health, safety and wellness programs for the organization.
To assemble, prepare and submit HR related reports the HR Manager.
To stay abreast on compliance requirements and industry best practices.
To participate in professional development activities to improve knowledge and skills.
To be prepared to work in conjunction with the philosophy and mandate of the Organization.
To constructively participate in staff meetings, seminars and training sessions as required.
To maintain an Operations Manual for all duties performed.
To ensure Health and Safety compliance in the workplace by following policies, procedures and best practices and reporting any unsafe environments.
To participate in Succession Plans to ensure continuity of services.
To ensure confidential handling of employee, student, volunteer and client information as dictated by Privacy Legislation.
To ensure adherence to organization best practices and policy and procedures.
To represent the organization in a positive and professional manner at all times.
Any other duties as requested by the Human Resources Manager; commensurate with role.

Human Resources Management Diploma, Business Administration Diploma or Business Administration Certificate with a minimum of 3 year of experience.
A Grade Twelve diploma plus a minimum of five (5) years working in Human Resources or office administration may be considered in lieu of education requirements.
Human Resources Management Certificate/Diploma or experience.
Experience working for a non-profit organization.
Experience working in an Indigenous organization.
Experience working in a unionized environment.
Ability to speak Ojibway, Oji-Cree or Cree.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
A solid understanding of Human Resources Management and business administration.
Excellent organizational and sound public relations skills with the ability to communicate effectively.
Possess excellent computer skills and proficient in Microsoft Office, Adobe and database administration.
Must be capable of performing office duties such as filing, data entry, formatting and composing letters, operating various office equipment; photocopier, fax machine, etc.
Proven customer service skills.
Ability to exercise sound, independent judgment and discretion in carrying out the requirements of the job.
Knowledge of filing systems and capable of maintaining Human Resource records.
Ability to accurately and expeditiously enter data.
Proven ability to work with minimum supervision, prioritize and meet deadlines under own initiative.
Human Resources Assistant usually works in an office environment, but the mission of the organization may sometimes take them to non-standard workplaces.
Human Resources Assistant works a normal week; Monday to Friday, 35 hours per week, but additionally will work evening, weekends, and overtime hours to accommodate activities such as representing the organization at meetings, conferences, workshops and public events.
The Human Resources Assistant is based at Anemki Drive; however, all employees may be required to work across other sites from time to time.
All employees are required to carry out their duties in a manner that does not adversely affect their own health and safety and that of others by reporting all potential hazards; and all incidents and injuries; as well as co-operating with any measures introduced in the workplace to improve OH&S.
Employment is subject to:
Providing a successful Police Information Check (PIC).
Must be willing to work Flexible hours of work (35 hrs/wk.).
Must have a valid Class “G” Driver’s license, use of an automobile and appropriate insurance coverage is required.
Must sign Oath of Confidentiality.
Must have a Mental First Aid Certificate.
Must have First Aid Certificate.
